Veda means Knowledge . Rigveda is the most ancient literature ever available to mankind . Rigveda is the knowledge of the universe , body , mind and soul . There are Four Vedas . Rigveda , Yajurveda , Samaveda and Atharvanaveda . Vedas are irrefutable and is the sheet anchor of Hinduism . It is also called the Sanatana dharma . Vedas are interpreted from various perspectives from time to time and has ever remained fresh . Vedas are timeless . Rigveda is the main pillar and the other three vedas have repetetion of the rigveda mantras . There are 10 mandalas in Rigveda consisting of 10552 mantras grouped under suktas . Mantras are structure of ancient sanskrit words consisting of definite number of letters called CHANDAS addressed by the RISHI who is enlightened visionary . The mantras are addressed to GODS who bestow their powers on the devotee . Mantras are the WAVES of sounds which establish the communication between the devotee and the Gods . Gods in Rigveda are the natural forces which constitute this universe , which support and sustain this universe and what makes up this universe . Gods in Vedas are FIRE , AIR , EARTH , WATER , SPACE , ATMOSPHERE , CONSCIOUSNESS , KNOWLEDGE , INTELLIGENCE , ENERGY , MEDICINES , BEAUTY and BALANCE . LIFE of Truth , honesty , order and joyful living is the aim of the Vedic knowledge . The supreme all pervading power is ONE , who is the source of ENERGY - CONSCIOUSNESS- BLISS called ATMA . All the Gods derive their divinity from this ATMA alone , since LIFE ENERGY + CONSCIOUSNESS + BLISS is the sole rogative of ATMA alone . This ATMA also called PURUSHA . This PURUSHA IS THE SOURCE AND CULMINATION OF THE WHOLE UNIVERSE , GODS and ALL POWERS DIVINE OR OTHISERWISE . All the natural elements air , water , fire , earth , space , all the gods sun , moon , planets and the stars , all the time and space , all the animals bipeds , quadrupeds and that fly are the creations of this ATMA and all have emanated from THAT . A spark of this ATMA enters the bodies of all living beings and makes them all A living independent entity . The whole universe is created with supreme creative intelligence based on TRUTH and ORDER and runs joyfully . When the truth and order is not followed by the people , the life becomes ugly and painful . Vedas are the beacons for a glorious life for the whole humanity . Vedas are difficult to understand and various scriptures have evolved from time to time to make the Vedas accessible to common man and woman . Vedas are irrefutable , because , it is a book of Knowledge of all times and knowledge cannot be untruth . Untruth vanishes due to onslaught of TIME .
